Following a full risk assessment Butco are now beginning to offer our normal range of services, including installations, providing that work can be carried out safely for both our customers and staff. All our engineers have been provided with protective PPE including face masks, gloves, hand sanitisers and wipes.
In order to help protect our staff we ask that should anyone in the property feel unwell, or show signs of Covid 19, that we are informed prior to any site visit, so that any additional precautions may be taken.

Due to the current situation, our Engineers are only responding to Emergency and Breakdown calls. Annual services are on hold and the boiler manufacturers have assured us that none of their warranties will be affected.
Landlords – Where necessary, we will still be issuing Landlord’s Certificates.

Amid the very fast developing COVID-19 ("Coronavirus") situation, we would like to reassure you about the actions we are taking to enable our normal business activities to continue. We will be reviewing the official guidance on an ongoing basis, but for now, it is very much business as usual.
We would strongly advise that ALL CUSTOMERS download the Butco App as it will be the faster way to get information and you can also get call-outs using the App in an emergency.

The safety of our customers, colleagues and suppliers
Safety of course remains our highest priority. To make sure our customers, colleagues and suppliers stay safe within our offices, we are ensuring that cleaning and hygiene protocols are even more rigorous than usual. All of our staff are following personal hygiene guidance and being asked to regularly wash their hands.
Our engineers have been issued with supplies of gloves, and anti-bacterial supplies. They have been asked to ensure they regularly wash their hands and to wear gloves when in customers’ properties, where supplies allow.
What about house visits?
It is essential for the future of the business and our staff, that where possible, we are able to carry on providing our normal service levels. We will continue to attend customers’ properties, in order to service and repair their heating systems, where it is safe to do so.
We are however asking for your help when we are attending your property. Where possible please ensure you keep a minimum distance of 2 metres from our engineer. Please do not offer refreshments and if you are happy to do so please let the engineer work in isolation. The engineers have been advised that they must limit the movement through any property, so for now we will not check radiators during your annual service, unless you advise us of any specific issues you may have.
If anyone in the property is self isolating we ask that you let us know before our engineer arrives. Please be advised that should it be necessary our engineer may have to leave a form of temporary heating until you have recovered and it is considered safe for us to enter your property, to repair your boiler.
Supply of spare parts
We will ensure where possible that our engineers carry the necessary supplies and that their van stock levels are kept at a maximum, in order to reduce the number of calls needed to your property and our repair lead times. However, during these unprecedented times, we cannot guarantee that there will not be delays in the time it takes for us to obtain spares, and we would ask our customers for their understanding and we assure you that we will be doing our very best to limit the time taken for us to complete any repairs.
As we are expecting a reduction in our work load in the coming weeks, we would like to offer our engineers services to any of our vulnerable Contract/Care Plan customers who may need assistance with any other services that we don’t usually provide. Should you have any shopping requirements or need any small essential jobs doing in your property please feel free to contact us and where possible, we will arrange for our engineers to assist you.

Gas Safety Week is an annual safety week to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. It is coordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas.
Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a highly poisonous gas that can kill quickly and without warning, as you cannot see it, taste it or smell it.
By taking care of your gas appliances properly you are taking care of your home and your loved ones. Follow these few simple checks to keep you and your family safe.
• Check your gas appliances every year. Gas appliances should be safety checked once a year and serviced regularly by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Tenants – make sure your landlord arranges this. Set a reminder so you don’t forget at StayGasSafe.co.uk.
• Look out for friends and relatives. Some people may be unable to arrange their own gas safety check or may be unaware of what they need to do to keep safe. Help your loved ones by ensuring that they have their appliances checked and serviced regularly.
• Check your engineer is Gas Safe registered. You can find or check an engineer at GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.
• Check your engineer is qualified for the type of gas work you need doing e.g. natural gas, domestic boiler. You can find this information on the back of their Gas Safe ID card and on the Gas Safe Register website.
• Check for warning signs that could indicate your (or others) appliances are not working correctly. Signs may include lazy yellow /orange flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks on or around the appliance, a pilot light that keeps going out and too much condensation in the room.
• Know the six main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning – headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness.
• Install an audible carbon monoxide alarm and make sure your friends and relatives have one too. Check they are marked EN50291 and display the British Standards’ Kitemark.

MEP engineering contractor Trinity, in conjunction with group company Butco Heating, has recently completed a major contract on the new Bridgnorth Station. Trinity were working for the main contractor, Iris Construction Projects, who are based in Ludlow, Shropshire.
The Trinity contract involved supplying preliminary planning, design and drawings for the mechanical services, heating, ventilation, plumbing and drainage.
Working over many months, the contract was delivered on time and on budget for the completely new building, which is in keeping with early 1900’s architecture and has exposed, polished copper pipes in all the lavatories. Important facilities include a restaurant, rest room, kitchen and bar, together with a separate food storage building.
Iris Construction, who specialise in the commercial, education and residential sectors, were very pleased with the result and have already started working with Butco on other projects.

This last week we received a letter from one of our customers in praise of an Engineer who discovered a live bird behind the customer's fire installation.
"Thank you for your prompt help when a bird became trapped behind my gas fire. Special thanks to Simon (Engineer) who rescued the bird, apparently unharmed, and happily flew way, once again thank you and well done!"

One of the many hotel groups where we maintain all the electrical systems, including alarms, lighting and security is the Hyatt Hotel in Birmingham.

The Butco Buccaneers combined with their sister company's Trinity Torpedoes, entering one of the 27 teams at the Rotary Club Wolverhampton Event at Himley Hall last Sunday.
Although Butco were not in the finals, a good time was had by all in their three races and, more importantly, managed to stay dry!
The event drew crowds of some 12,000 people and was aimed at raising funds for around 30 charities including Birmingham Cancer Research projects.

Butco Heating and sister company Trinity Heat Care are each entering a team, the Butco Buccaneers and the Trinity Torpedoes, into The Annual Dragon Boat Challenge on the Great Lake at Himley Hall. Himley Hall and Park is 4 miles from Dudley, DY3 4DF. Quite apart from it being a fantastic day out for the teams of competitors, it has also become a thoroughly enjoyable spectator sport and family day out for around 2,000 people. The first race starts at 10.30 am and each team will race a minimum of three races during the heats.
All money raised by the event will go to Birmingham Cancer Research and the Rotary Charitable Trust, so come along, have some fun while supporting some very worthwhile causes.

Mr & Mrs T of Wednesfield have been loyal customers of Centra Heat for many, many years. In fact, Centra Heat had installed two new boilers and maintained their heating system for around 40 years!
Recently, their boiler broke down leaving them with no hot water or central heating.
Unfortunately, Mr & Mrs T thought that Centra Heat had closed down, not realising that they were still operational after being acquired by Butco Heating Ltd, and that the experienced Centra Heat engineers, now employed by Butco, are still looking after all the customers in that region.
So Mr & Mrs T called in another local heating firm to sort out the boiler and restore their heat and hot water. The so called 'engineer' duly arrived and spent some time trying to sort out the problems. He was continuously on his mobile seeking advice, spending around 5 hours before the hot water and heating was working. Mr & Mrs T had to pay £380 there and then to the engineer for the call-out.
After 5 days there was no hot water again! The same 'engineer' arrived and this time, after a quick look, decided that a new pump was required - at a cost of some £250. Mr & Mrs T, being pensioners, could not afford the new pump and refused to go ahead, leaving them having to boil a kettle for any hot water they needed.
Luckily, their son found out that Butco was still looking after all the Centra Heat customers, so Mrs T wrote to Butco explaining the situation. Butco reacted immediately and despatched one of their engineers to investigate. Within a few minutes of the Butco engineer's arrival, the boiler was working perfectly, with the heating and hot water restored. No parts had been needed, only adjustments to the boiler controls.
No charge was made by Butco for restoring the system and ensuring that their loyal customers didn't have to suffer any further. Peter Turnock, Group Director spoke to Mr T and commented "we couldn't leave the situation as it was; they had been totally let down by an incompetent firm who shouldn't be allowed to trade, only wanting to fleece vulnerable home owners out of their money. We look forward to looking after this couple for many years to come - and to seeing the other 'engineer' starring on Rogue Traders!".

Individual sponsors and crew members raise money from friends, colleagues and family. Half of the sponsorship is donated to the charity nominated by the crew, and the other half to the Rotary Charitable Trust for distribution to needy causes.
Racing takes place throughout this fun day for competing teams with thousands of spectators attending.
We are looking very good this year- 25 teams signed up- it should be one of our best ever years. Each team consists of between 12 and 16 paddlers, plus one drummer who sits at the front and beats the rhythm for the paddlers to keep to. Racing begins at about 10.00am Each team will race a minimum of three races during the heats. A team area is set up for competitors who bring gazebos, chairs and usually, catering too. Food is also available on site.
The event is a great day out for individual groups of friends, companies, competitors and spectators where the focus really is on having fun while raising monies for good causes, so put it in your diary to come along and cheer us on! Click here for more info...

In a very tight game to begin with, there was little between the teams, but in the last quarter the Warriors ran out strong winners with a 35-23 score line.

Earlier this year the new owner of a Grade II listed Tudor house ordered a completely new heating system from the Butco Heating Group.
Lower Hall in the village of Worfield, Shropshire built in circa. 1510, is a classic Tudor design with seven bedrooms and three floors plus a large cellar. It stands in 4 acres of magnificent grounds complete with a trout stream.
The substantial internal structure included many high strength timbers so the pipework to all the rooms had to be planned very carefully to avoid spoiling the decorative rooms. Due to the internal volume and requiring a high level of heating controls, two oil fired boilers were installed to give the owners total control of room by room temperatures.
A new oil storage tank complete with sonic tank gauge was also installed and piped into the boilers situated in the cellar. The whole installation was completed on time and on budget with the least amount of disruption to the house and owners.
The owner commented – “My decision to use Butco/Centra Heat was based on their positive, courteous manner, experience and professional approach to a large project and difficult installation. The engineers turned up promptly every day, updated us with their progress, discussed problems such as the issue with the oak beams and left everything tidy at the end of the day. Butco Heating would like to welcome a new apprentice, Tim Daly (pictured left), who will train with the Butco Engineers all over the Midlands and attend College in Stourbridge at the same time.
Tim is aiming to be a fully qualified Gas Safe Engineer to Level 3 within four years in a Government backed scheme which includes plumbing and domestic heating systems. At Butco, Tim will gain experience in servicing and installing new heating systems, as well as emergency call-outs and breakdowns.
Having achieved excellent results and nine GCSE's at Kinver High School, Tim is a keen rugby player, having played for County, North Midlands and currently for the Stourbridge first team.
Butco Group Management are very keen to fully support apprenticeships and feel that it is an extremely good way to help develop their highly qualified work force.

Once again, Centra Heat, together with Butco Heating will be sponsoring the Best Foot Forward fundraising event on 7th July, organised by the Rotary Club of Wolverhampton. Centra Heat were one of the founding patrons for this locally based event; there are now over 40 corporate patrons who, together with local people, have raised £98,000 over the last 5 years.

Fundraisers walk, jog or run around the track at Aldersley Stadium in Wolverhampton, with £1 donated for every 400m lap of the track completed. Last year nearly £12,000 was raised, with one seven-year-old completing 53 laps, and a family clocking up nearly 600 laps between them!

The government has announced that to raise standards of household heating and improve energy efficiency as part of their Clean Growth Strategy, all new Combi boiler installations must comply with the new Boiler Plus scheme.
As from the 6th April 2018, the Boiler Plus scheme will be part of the Building Regulations and to comply, one of these four options must be included with the installation: –
• Flue gas heat recovery system
• Weather compensation
• Load compensation
• Smart heating controls.

Contracts Manager Aaron Evans from our sister company Trinity Heat Care, was out in Cambodia recently as part of a large group of like-minded people, helping to build water tanks on behalf of Xylem to provide clean and safe water for the locals.
Xylem and Planet Water Foundation work to provide clean water access and water-health and hygiene education to communities throughout the Asia Pacific Region and Latin America. Projects with Planet Water Foundation build gravity-fed water towers and teach water-health and hygiene lessons to local school children.
On World Water Day 2017, Xylem Watermark partnered with Planet Water Foundation and Project 24, which brought clean water to thousands of people in Cambodia, Colombia, India, Indonesia, and the Philippines in 24 hours. Gas safety is important all year round, but it is not always a household’s top priority. Gas Safety Week - coordinated by Gas Safe Register - provides a platform for the gas industry, consumer organisations and individuals to focus all our communications about gas safety in one week, generating interest in the media and so having a greater impact amongst the public.

Gas Tag has launched its innovative gas safety app as they begin their mission to revolutionise gas safety in the UK, and stop non Gas Safe Registered fitters in their tracks.
The automatic engineer verification feature prevents unregistered gas fitters from recording any work through the system. This will stop rogue gas fitters in their tracks and create more jobs for qualified engineers, as only Gas Safe Register engineers can log in and record work through the system.
Engineers can also access the previous work history of each Gas Tag property via the FREE app. This helps identify and troubleshoot issues with appliances more quickly. All of the information is uploaded to a centralised portal where landlords, homeowners and housing associations can monitor the data through a cockpit-style dashboard.
The Gas Tag system does away with the current method of ‘locally-stored’ records and replaces it with the first ever independent UK database of geo-tagged, time-stamped and photo-verified evidence of all work carried out, via the use of the app on a smartphone – allowing the work to be monitored in real time from the Gas Tag Portal and so help keep people safe from carbon monoxide poisoning.
